Hearing God

Scripture Reading: Matthew 1-2, Memory Verse: Matthew 2:13-14

I was praying with my little girl one evening just before she went to bed. I remember after praying she asked, "how do we hear God speak to us daddy"?

I remembered I was praying for God to speak to us even in our dreams and visions to which she asked the above question. I believe often we would like to hear God speak to us but we have ways we either think or wish he did this.

An angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph and told him to depart and he responded just as the he was told. An angel may not visit you like Joseph but I believe God has His own way of speaking to us daily to which we need to train ourselves to hear His voice.

God can speak to us through,

    * the reading of His word
    * Preaching
    * A song
    * A friend
    * His Spirit etc.

What we should be careful of is also not to pick and choose how we want him to do this. I have heard several times how sometimes people choose to listen to a particular preacher especially if he is our favourite. Fact is God may be speaking to you today through a different medium, which is not familiar to you, and we need to listen to the Holy Spirit and hear what the father has for us.

It maybe a small child, or someone who may not have any standing in public but God can use anything or anyone. Often our pride blocks us our mind and spirit to hear Him.

Listen, He may be speaking!
